At our May meeting, we welcomed Yvonne Trivett from Packington and Maxstoke WI, who will be our local delegate at the National WI AGM at Liverpool in June We voted in favour of both the resolutions to be debated there but gave her discretion to change her vote on our behalf if she thought there was a good reason for voting against. The two resolutions are on Alleviating Loneliness and the pollution of our oceans by ‘Micro-Plastic Soup’, which is created by micro-plastic fibres shed by synthetic clothing at every wash. The Federation is calling on Government and Industry to research and develop innovative solutions to this problem. Mrs Trivett will report back at our next meeting after the AGM to let us know the outcome of the vote.
