Coleshill Country Market has confirmed that, after uncertainty over its venue since the sale of the Parish Room at 132 High Street, it will continue to trade there between 8 and noon each Friday morning, as it has since 1969. This spring it is selling a wide variety of new season’s bedding and vegetable plants plus assorted herbs, with expert producers Martin Cross and Janet Reilly on hand to give advice on all aspects of gardening. Last week Martin even braved an unexpected downpour, sitting under his umbrella with an impressive display of plants produced by him and Dawn Bagley, including lettuce, broad beans, cabbage, tomato plants, peas and sweet peas plus lobelias, fuchsias and a range of rockery plants.

A new producer, Roger Barber has brought a selection of exquisitely-crafted wooden items including turned bowls, vases, pestles and mortars, eggcups and goblets which are already proving popular as unique gifts. So too is a new line of hand-made glassware, pendants, hanging decorations and jewellery from Sarah James  of Bumblebee Glass.

Our home-made baked goods are always a big draw and include fruitcakes, savouries, quiches, shortbread, lemon drizzle cake, chocolate eclairs, meringues, gingerbread, mince pies and sausage rolls, as well as high-quality preserves: marmalades, chutney and pickles, free range eggs, cards and hand-knitted and crocheted items.

“Everyone loves the home-made goodies on offer,” said Market founder Christine Jones “ but I think what our customers particularly enjoy is the friendly atmosphere, the warm welcome from our regular producers Joan, Margaret, Janet and Martin and the chance of a chat over tea or coffee and cake. For people who can’t get there on Friday mornings or would like to have something special made, we can take orders with a couple of days’ notice. Phone me, Christine Jones on 01675-462012 or Deanna Baker on 01675-463239 to place your order and arrange delivery, or if you’re interested in becoming a producer.”
